Taking the leap

Two friends, two careers in international luxury hotels, and a shared ambition to build something of our own.

So we took the leap and opened BAIA Restaurant Bar & Grill, an independent Italian-inspired restaurant in Shenzhen, China, at a time when the city’s Western dining scene was still finding its feet.

Burgers, beers & rooftop parties

We opened BAIA Burger Concept with a simple idea: great burgers served in a proper restaurant, something Shenzhen hadn’t seen much of at the time.

Burgers, craft beers, and weekend rooftop parties soon became what people knew us for.

An unexpected turn

Then came COVID. In early 2020, we had to close our original Italian restaurant and another BAIA Burger Concept location.

We kept the burgers, brought back some Italian favourites, and slowly found ourselves running a restaurant quite different from either one we’d started with.

Still BAIA

Same team, same location, same great burgers. But different.

BAIA has become something that’s hard to put into a single category. And we’re quite happy about that.

Some come for the burgers. Others settle in on the terrace with their favourite drinks. Some bring colleagues for a business dinner, others bring friends and turn it into a party.

What matters to us is knowing how to look after the people who walk through our doors. Some want a conversation, others prefer a quiet evening. We believe good service starts with understanding the difference.
